For all you tennis lovers out there, an exciting event is coming your way that’s sure to be an ace. Known as the Best Tennis Town in America, Charleston will be hosting the World TeamTennis Finals (WTT) for the first time at the Family Circle Tennis Center starting July 22. The event will include the WTT Conference Championship matches as well as the WTT Finals. The World TeamTennis Pro League was co-founded by Billie Jean King in the 1970s and has had 35 seasons to date. Each WTT team consists of a coach, two male players, and two female players. Each team will play five total sets of singles, doubles, and mixed doubles. During the regular season, each WTT Pro League team plays 14 matches — seven home and seven away. Teams include the Boston Lobsters, New York Sportimes, Philadelphia Freedoms, Washington Kastles, Newport Beach Breakers, Sacramento Capitals, St. Louis Aces, Springfield Lasers, and Kansas City Explorers. The Eastern Conference Championship will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, with the Western Conference Championship scheduled for 5 p.m. Saturday. Winners will face off in the finals at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Competitors from each conference will be determined over the course of the next few days as the regular season runs through July 21.
