The Blue Angels are finally upon us. Here’s some tips for seeing the show.
In downtown Charleston, viewing locations include the Charleston Maritime Center, Waterfront Park, White Point Garden and the Battery, and Libery Square/Concord Park (at Calhoun and Concord). The city’s parking garages will have a flat $5 rate. You can also try the parking area at Brittlebank Park or the MUSC Fishburne St. parking lots (behind the City Police Department); there will be shuttles (running from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.) on hand to take spectators to and from these lots to White Point Garden or Waterfront Park. Handicap parking will be located in the parking lot in front of the Greenberg Building at 180 Lockwood Drive.
In Mt. Pleasant, head to Patriots Point (and remember the $3 parking fee and other possible fees for boarding the USS Yorktown) or to the Memorial Waterfront Park (where parking is 50 cents per hour).
There will be restricted boat areas in the Cooper River and Charleston Harbor. The pedestrian and bike path on the Ravenel bridge will be closed both Saturday and Sunday, so don’t plan on taking any strolls over the Cooper.
Keep traffic in mind as you head to your viewing spot. The intersections of South Battery and East Battery and Murray Boulevard and King Street will be closed to allow viewers access to the street for viewing. On the other side of the bridge, we advise avoiding Coleman Boulevard.
And are you agoraphobic? Just look out your window and tune in to 98.9 FM, which will broadcast a narration of the entire performance.
