We bet you didn’t know that JFK bought a dachshund puppy in 1937. Or that Pablo Picasso had a soft spot for the oblong dog as well and paid tribute to his dachshund, Lump, in 15 of his paintings. Dachshunds, wiener dogs, hot dogs, or whichever nickname your prefer, are popular pets and look hilarious when dressed up in doggy costumes, so why not bring your long, stumpy dog to the “Who Let the Dogs Out?” Wiener Dog Race at the Joe? Proceeds from the race will benefit the Mary Ashley Barbot Kidney Transplant Fund. Hoping to raise awareness about living donors, the race is also raising money for Mary Ashley, who has a 1 percent chance of finding a kidney match and needs a living donor. Money raised will go toward the medical expenses and search for her donor. Besides the race, there will also be a small dog costume contest. The winning wieners will be invited back to attend Saturday’s RiverDogs game.
