Weekend Round-Up: Pride, Pancakes, and Puppies

The best events in Charleston Aug. 1-3

August is finally here, but the month doesn't arrive quietly. Charleston Pride Festival and Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week kicks off next week. But the festivals aren't the only thing this month brings — soon college kids will begin flocking downtown arriving for the school year. If you're looking to get away from all this excitement, we've still got plenty of events for you from a pancake breakfast to adoption at Petco with Pet Helpers.

Friday

Personally, we like to take our gender equality with pancakes and a Bloody Mary. And we can do all of that at Be Brave Brunch.

Animal rights activism comes alive with artist Laura Palermo at Cerulean Survivors – The Life of a Sea Turtle.

Grab your hacky sack and favorite Bob Marley shirt for a night of jams at Reggae Night Summer Concert Series.

Saturday

We'd personally rather skip the morning yoga, and go straight for the food instead at Pancake Breakfast.

Let the kids stretch it out at Louie's Kids' Saturday Morning Workout.

Let your rainbow flag fly high at Charleston Pride Festival.

Celebrate culture and even learn a few things at Gullah/Geechee Nation Appreciation Week.

At Cocktails and Cufflinks Bachelor Charity Auction, you can take somebody home with you — for a date, of course. Just be sure to place a bid first. After all, it's for charity.

Grab yourself a vintage rainbow jersey at Charleston RiverDogs Pride Night.

The heat gets turned up at Southern Season Class: Hot Nights in the Holy City with spicy foods.

Sunday

Sunday just isn't the same without Sunday mimosas and brunch.

Watch award-winning documentary Bridegroom to celebrate pride week.

A home really isn't a home without a pet. Adopt a furry friend at Pet Helpers at Petco.

Happy Hour is our favorite hour — especially when we have cheese and crackers to go with our wine.
