Weekend Round-Up: Birds, laughs, and a blast from the past

The best events in Charleston Sept. 21-23

With fall on the horizon, the pool parties, beach days, and boat rides are soon coming to a halt. Before we know it, we’ll be dusting off our favorite pair of jeans. But that doesn’t mean that Charleston has a lack of interesting and awesome events to attend. Here’s what the Holy City has in store for this weekend.

Friday. To attend or not to attend, that is the question. You’ll have your pick of options to choose from in the theater category this weekend. If you feel like taking in a play or two, check out The 39 Steps or Legally Blonde: The Musical. Feelin' frisky? Check out some old-time burlesque at Carnival Revival.

More in the partying mood? Friday holds plenty of party fun. You can dust off those dancing shoes for the Moonlight Mixer or Chucktown After 5 w/Two 3 Ways, both of which will feature some great tunes to shake your tail feathers to.

Saturday. Speaking of tail feathers, you can head over to the Vulture Restaurant to observe black and turkey vultures feeding. Not your usual Saturday outing, but an interesting one none the less. For live music, check out Latin Night w/the Charleston Jazz Orchestra, Glenn Leonard's "Temptations Revue", or the three day live music festival on Isle of Palms, Hotel Carolina.

Beer Tastings at COAST can quench your beer thirst.

Support your local parks by attending the third annual Party for the Parks, which will include local food, drinks, and live music.

Things will be ha-ha-happening at Theatre 99 for the Charleston Comedy Festival Stand Up Competition Preliminary Rounds.

Sunday. To add a splash of fun to your afternoon, check out some retro bathing suits at the WET: Vegas Style Pool Party or explore your adventurous side on an Ashley River Kayak Tour. To close out your weekend with a yummy treat you can head to the Tin Roof Chili Cook-Off or, to see shadow puppets that go beyond the typical hand-bunny, try out the Wayang Modern Shadow Puppet Theater.
