Voodoo still rocks the Avondale triangle featuring the same dark sensibilities that made it a favorite long ago. From emo punks to hard rockers, the alternative vibe draws in a diverse selection of characters to the bar, and they serve food to match. Proprietors Jen and Mike Kulick recently renovated the dining room, cleaning things up and adding roomy bright red booths perfect for a large group sharing one of Voodoo's signature bowls of booze or a fried pu pu platter. It might look a bit different, but you'll still find the same menu packed with greasy goodness like white truffle-infused tater tots, giant lobster corn dogs, and duck tacos. Go during happy hour for half-off tacos and potent $3 Mai Tais. —Erica Jackson Curran, Dish (Winter 2012)
