Think you know Charleston? Could you find the largest mansion, the first fireproof building, or where Allie and Noah had their first date in The Notebook? Can you run there? If you’re feeling confident, register for Charleston’s Urban Dare, a part trivia, part physical race around the city. Urban Dare has events all over the country with specialized questions and tasks that can range from throwing a bullseye in darts to climbing a rock wall to kissing a landmark. “There’ll be around 11 clues that teams need to take pictures at,” says event organizer John Toner. “The other four stops will have someone from Urban Dare there and the teams must complete a fun task — like a three-legged race, trivia question, jumping rope, word scrambles. I won’t finalize the tasks until two or three days before the race.” A little rusty on your Holy City knowledge? Urban Dare encourages the use of smartphones for when you get stumped. Fast teams will finish in around two hours after covering five to seven miles and are given bragging rights and entry to the Super Dare (which Toner hinted could be in Southern California, but this hasn’t been finalized) for a chance to win $5,000. And teams can run, walk, or jump on CARTA — just don’t bike or drive — to complete the race.
