Street disposition. Presented by Quebec's Les 7 Doights de la Main, this energetic show was originally based on the talents of a group of streetwise circus performers-in-training. Although only one founding member still remains on the small cast — it's a highly demanding show and the others have since moved on to other gigs — the new members still channel the original performers' gritty talents.
Circus cabaret. Like last year's Circa and Oyster in 2010, it's hard to define a show like Traces. Spoleto has it in the physical theater category, and it's touted as circus cabaret in the description. The show blends dance, acrobatics, music, and narrative to create something distinctly unique.
Critics' darlings. The New York Times called Traces "a fix of pure urban adrenaline," and the Chicago Tribune called it "gorgeously pure, loose, and personal circus." Stay tuned for City Paper's review. We have a feeling we'll like it, too.
