Tour of Italy Dinner

When: Wed., Oct. 19, 6 p.m. 2011
Price: $75

Sometimes a fine substitute for a vacation is simply a wonderful meal that takes you on a trip. At this wine dinner at Bacco, you’ll be led through Italy by way of food and wine with Chef Michael Scognamiglio as your guide.

Start in the north with a Prosecco from Veneto and some cicchetti misti. Then, it’s over to Alto Adige for a crisp glass of Müller Thurgau paired with a frisee and speck salad. For the second antipasto course, head down the boot to Marche for some fish and littleneck clams with a Verdicchio Classico.

Everyone’s favorite, Tuscany, is next with a hearty Chianti and Fagioli all’ucceletto, which is beans cooked “little bird” style with sage and tomatoes. Puglia, in the heel of the boot, is where you’ll get orecchiette pasta and lamb ragu with a glass of Don Marcello Primitivo, a Southern red wine. Campania brings seared pork belly and the red grape Pallagrello Nero.

And, finally, dessert comes in Piedmont with a housemade apple torta and a sparkling glass of Moscato D’Asti. No grappa is mentioned on the menu, but we have to believe Italy’s favorite digestiv will be around somewhere. Reservations are required for this dinner, and we recommend you make some now.
