Fans of trashy reality TV shows are going to love the Village Playhouse’s latest production. “It’s like Jersey Shore washed up on the pluff mud-covered banks of the Lowcountry,” Village Playhouse Director Keely Enright says of Tony n Tina’s Wedding. Conceived by Nancy Cassaro, the comedic play premiered in New York in 1988. The Village Playhouse has produced it before, but not since 2004.
Ryan Ahlert and Emily Wilhoit star as Tony Nunzio and Tina Vitale, an Italian-American couple about to get married. All of the humorous stereotypes of loud Italian families make appearances here, including a knocked-up Maid of Honor, a drunk priest, and a mob boss father and his stripper girlfriend. Audience members will actually feel like part of the wedding during this interactive show, enjoying a pasta buffet dinner and reception dancing throughout the night. —Erica Jackson
