Lavender, catnip, and honey, oh my. Tiverton Farms, managed by the Denaro family, grows these products along with vegetables and a couple hundred ornamental shrubs. But according to farmer Maria Denaro, they’re most famous for their bee pollen. Her father Lou runs the farm, and her brother Frank manages their bees — Maria says he’s the man to go to for all things honey in Charleston. They’re growing tomatoes, peppers, and okra now and looking forward to planting cabbage, collards, and turnips once the ground is dry enough to work. In years prior, the Denaro family attended several markets around the area, but this year they’ll focus their energy on the Marion Square market on Saturdays. They’ll have a bunch of goodies with them that will change weekly, including flower bulbs and fresh and cut herbs.
