The shower has long been a safe haven for creative thought. But the Through the Looking Glass art show displays how this creativity can be realized on the very shower door from which it was born. The show’s creator, Tirrell Kerstner, recently found himself with an excess of sliding glass shower doors. “I was going to use the doors I got from Craigslist to make a greenhouse, but my wife thought they could be used for art. We decided to send them to different local artists to see what they could do.” With over 30 pieces, Through the Looking Glass will display the decorated shower doors along with other pieces of the artists’ work. Held at Mama Q’s Kitchen, the event will include great food and live music from local bands Wawona, H. Michael Band, and the 3 Dudes. Vendors from around Johns Island will also be on hand selling their handmade goods. “We want the event to bring Johns Island some exposure,” Kerstner says. The proceeds from a raffle of the artists’ works, including a few shower ready doors, will be given to the Charleston Animal Society and the Charles Webb Center.
