How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? And most importantly, how many blueberries can you eat before you blow up like Violet Beauregarde? You’re on your own with the first two, but this weekend, two different farms are going to help you figure out the answer to the third. On Saturday, drive south on Highway 17 to Champney’s Farm for their first-ever Berries for Babies event. From 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., half of all the you-pick proceeds will be donated to MUSC Children’s Hospital. The farmers are blessed with healthy babies of their own, and they wanted to raise money to get “items to comfort the babies as well as the parents.” You’ll want to pick until your fingers turn blue, since gallons are going for just $9. On Sunday hit the road and head the other direction for more blueberry fun at Blue Pearl Farms, host of the Third Annual Lowcountry Blueberry Festival. After picking more yummy berries, set out blankets and chairs to relax by the blissful shade of the Cypress Pond. There will be live music with Tommy Thunderfoot & the Accelerators, crafts, presentations, and lessons on how best to grow and use blueberries. Plus, it’s for another great cause with a portion of the proceeds going to the the Coastal Conservation League. And if you haven’t turned into a blueberry by this point, you can join in the blueberry toss and try to set a new world record.
