Mt. Pleasant is no stranger to The Marvelous Wonderettes. Roger Bean’s show, performed by the Village Playhouse in the past, follows the eccentric Wonderettes — Betty Jean, Missy, Cindy Lou, and Suzy — as they chaotically performed at their 1958 high school prom. For this year’s follow-up act, the ladies are once again being asked to take the stage, this time at the 1968 holiday party for Harper’s Hardware, Betty Jean’s employer since their high school graduation 10 years prior. According to Keely Enright, the play’s director, the Wonderettes’ performance follows the girls through the holiday party, which unfolds into a “very funny, very irreverent, kind of tongue-in-cheek” affair. Of course, Enright also notes that the lively holiday production has no shortage of great ’60s music.
