The Red Party

When: Fri., Oct. 25, 7 p.m. 2013
Price: $70/advance, $90/door, $150/VIP
Obviously the first thing you think of when you hear Gatsby is a jail. Wait, what? The Red Party wants you to channel your inner Jay Gatsby and Daisy Buchanan as you swing the night away at the Old City Jail. Beats will be supplied by DJ C. Nile, and guests can indulge in food by Salthouse Catering, Ho¯M Burger Boutique, Butcher & Bee, Healthy Home, Básico, and L.I.M.E while sipping on specialty cocktails. And what would Gatsby be without some glitz and glam? “Starting with the line of vintage cars outside, we will have every facet of Gatsby you can think of: the speakeasy, the shantytown, the garden party, and the boathouse — all with a backdrop of the jail as the Gatsby mansion,” says Kerri Forrest, the director of institutional advancement at the American College of the Building Arts. “I think our guests will enjoy how we have brought so much of the story under one roof.” During the party, there will also be a live auction including a 50th anniversary Rolling Stones electric guitar signed by every member of the group. And Forrest tells us that the VIP area is going to be extra special this year. “It will be a true experience. The speakeasy from 6:30-8 p.m. will feature a casino with craps and roulette tables, special silent auction items, and a few surprises just before the start of the auction. In the VIP garden party outdoors, we’ll have a few games of lawn croquet,” she says. You don’t say, old sport.
