When it comes to racism it seems like the only way to react to it is with disgust and disapproval. But the folks of The Most RACES Show on Earth! get a much different response: laughter. Created four years ago, this stand-up show — and Charleston Comedy Fest veteran— pokes fun at racist stereotypes. In a YouTube video, comedian Cory Fernandez cracks a joke about racial profiling someone’s music taste. “You hop in a cab, the cab driver plays whatever music you look like you listen to,” Fernandez says. The director of the Charleston Music Hall, Charles Carmody, is looking forward to a great show with a strong message. “The concept alone of seven people from different backgrounds up on a stage together is interesting and challenging,” says Carmody. “The best stand-up comedy challenges us while it makes us laugh.” Carmody chose this show as a lighthearted way to see the Charleston community come together over an important issue. “I do what I do to bring people together. This show will hopefully make people realize that it’s not just about race,” adds Carmody.
