The gospel-based sacred steel/funk-rock ensemble The Lee Boys got their start in a House of God church in the southern Florida town of Perrine. Their church’s pastor, the Reverend Robert E. Lee, was a steel player himself. The Boys — brothers Alvin, Derrick, and Keith Lee (guitarists and vocalists, respectively), alongside nephews Roosevelt Collier (pedal steel), Alvin Cody Jr. (bass), and Earl Walker (drums) — stirred more than a few souls when they released their studio effort Say Yes! (Arhoolie) in 2005. Bandleader Alvin explains, “The inspiration and feeling that comes along with our music is the reason that people feel good. It’s like the new music on the block and it’s just getting ready to explode.” They’re currently in the studio for a steel/bluegrass album with The Travelin’ McCourys. This week’s show at the Wild Wing in Mt. Pleasant (in the Moultrie Shopping Plaza) starts at 9:30 p.m. —T. Ballard Lesemann
