A classic Charleston rock showcase, billed as the “first of two 40-Year celebrations” at the Windjammer. Power trio the Killer Whales — singer/guitarist and main songwriter David Bethany, bassist Jim Blakeslee, and drummer Murphy Pitts — were one of Charleston’s most accomplished and original New Wave bands in the late ’70s and early ’80s. They could switch between a guitar-pop styles to more blues ‘n’ boogie-influenced, Fender Strat rock ’n’ roll with ease. They recorded and released three records — a self-titled EP, a nicely-produced LP titled Emotional Geography, and a hard-to-find collection titled Big Bang. They even won a round on TV’s Star Search in 1986. The Whales split amicably in 1989, but they’ve occasionally reunited in recent years. Johnny Mac and the BootyRanch, Ed Hunnicutt, and Free Mountain Standstill share the bill. 4 p.m.
