Bringing someone home to meet your parents can be awkward, and our family isn’t even The Addams Family. But that scenario is exactly what authors Marshall Brickman and Rick Elice (Jersey Boys) based The Addams Family Broadway musical on. Wednesday Addams has fallen in love, and much to her parents chagrin, the boy is perfectly normal. After confessing that she loves her new beau to her father — and making him promise not to tell her mother, Morticia — Gomez feels the pressure of lying to his wife and keeping his daughter’s secret when the boyfriend and his parents come to the gothic mansion for dinner. But of course, this won’t be done in a Hallmark movie-of-the-week style. Come on, it’s The Addams Family. Morticia will lose her cool, Pugsley will mix-up the recipient of his concocted potion, and Lurch will be Lurch — all set to music. Sadly, there’s no Cousin Itt or Thing, but we think the traveling Broadway show will bring the eccentricities and downright weirdness of the Addams family in a guiltily enjoyable way.
