Being locked up in a castle with a cold, hairy beast is never ideal, but at least Belle had the Beast’s impressive library to help escape her entrapment. Luckily for you, you don’t have to imprison yourself to a monster to start your mighty book collection. The Charleston Friends of the Library hosts its Big Book Sale with paperbacks starting at only 50 cents beginning on Friday. (There’s a special member’s preview on Thursday.) This nonprofit organization takes donations of used books, CDs, and DVDs all year long to stock up for this sale, which raises money for the 16 branches of the Charleston County library. “I believe in the library’s ability to make a difference. It acts as a community center,” Emily Everett of Charleston Friends of the Library says. “People can come get help with job searches, sign up for a zumba class, or come to a children’s reading circle.” All the money made from the book sale funds library programs. If you happen to come on the last day of the sale, everything will be half price, and during the last hour of the sale, there will be a very special discount that you won’t want to miss.
