Take Flight Comic Show

When: Sat., July 27, 12-5 p.m. 2013
Phone: (843) 744-7753
Price: $5 suggested donation
If you pick up the City Paper and immediately turn to Steve Stegelin’s political cartoon, you should clear your calendar for Saturday’s Taking Flight Comic Show. Park Circle Comics is hosting the first-ever comic show at the Sparrow and will have Stegelin as a featured guest, along with the artists behind the zombie comedy Undead Norm, Christine Brunson and Melanie Florencio, and local comic book artist Jesse H. Mead. The guest artists will contribute to a silent auction that will also include some of Park Circle Comics’ inventory. The proceeds from the silent auction — and from the suggested $5 donation at the door — will go to the Alzheimer’s Association of Charleston. Jerry Lahm, organizer of Park Circle Comics, is excited to spend the afternoon with fellow comic lovers. “Going to a local store to shop is always fun but to have a chance to hang out with a bunch of fellow collectors, meet some talented artists, and have a beverage or two is usually not a common opportunity,” he says. If this event goes well, Lahm hopes to host more in the future. Afterward, the Sparrow will stay open for live music from Mead, a.k.a DJ D-Pad.
