Catch some waves on the 75-foot IMAX screen as the Charleston Surfrider Foundation presents the Midwinter Monster Wave Bash to raise money for the organization and celebrate the release of local author Chris Dixon’s Ghost Wave: The Discovery of Cortes Bank and the Biggest Wave on Earth. Along with a collection of his own personal “mind-bending photographs” of the surf spot, a film will combine videos of Cortes Bank “that haven’t even seen the light of day, not by anyone,” Dixon says. Beer, wine, and Taco Boy eats will be available for purchase, and there will be live music from the Brillers and surfer guitarist Tom Noren. Local businesses have teamed up with the Surfrider Foundation to give you the chance to win surfboards, skateboards, surf lessons, kayak tours, outdoor gear, restaurant gift certificates, and even tickets to Jimmy Buffet’s sold-out Charleston concert on Feb. 2. Dixon will be available for a book signing and discussion. The event is free and open to the public with all proceeds benefiting the Surfrider Foundation, an organization dedicated to protecting our oceans, beaches, and those monster waves.
