A sweet Chi-town comedy. Directed by PURE Theatre co-founder Sharon Graci, this play follows a Polish donut shop owner on Chicago's east side. He's joined by a young black teenager who has ideas for improving the decrepit shop, and winds up improving the life of his newfound employer.

The unusual suspects. With seven cast members, this play is bigger than many past PURE productions — quite a feat considering the small size of their current temporary home in the Ansonborough Square shopping center. Veteran actor Randy Neale shines as the protagonist Arthur Przybyszewski, and Michael Smallwood, a City Paper contributor, pulls off the role of teenager Franco Wicks with aplomb. Graci's husband and PURE co-founder Rodney Lee Rogers plays a Russian man who owns the shop next door. Laura Rose, Chris Harvey, and Tripp Hamilton (Graci's son) round out this talented cast.

A return for PURE. PURE originally produced this play back in March. Although City Paper's reviewer thought Tracy Letts' script was lacking, the show went on to enjoy several sold-out performances. We're guessing they had good reason to bring it back for Piccolo, so check it out for yourself.
