One of Richard Garcia’s Long Table Poets, Brandenburg has twice been named a finalist in the S.C. Poetry Initiative Single Poem Contest.

Homecoming
Returning to its original venue at the newly renovated Dock Street Theatre, the Piccolo Sundown Poetry Series will help you erase the workday from your mind among the twittering birds, unfailing breezes, and "a general ambiance that often produces magic." Join some of South Carolina's most renowned poets for one of the few events that has taken place every year since Piccolo Spoleto began in 1979. Every weeknight, a different poet will present a free reading followed by receptions at various downtown art galleries.

Music to your ears
Don't miss performances by Jean-Mark Sens (you haven't lived until you've heard original poetry delivered with a French accent); Helen Brandenburg, who expects hordes of her Bishop England students to attend; Jack Tracey, of Monday Night Blues fame; Ann Herlong-Bodman, who lived on a boat for years; and Susan Finch Stevens, who makes books by hand.

Wordspinning
Jim Moore, husband of photographer JoAnn Verburg, will do a reading (free with admission) at the Gibbes Museum on May 30 at 3 p.m. Moore's poems have appeared in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, The Nation, and many more magazines, and he will have a new book of poetry available in 2011 from Graywolf Press. When not in Spoleto, Italy, he and his wife live in St. Paul, Minn.
