Summer Concerts on Daniel Island

Funk Fest kicks off a hefty season

The Family Circle Cup Stadium hosts Funk Fest this Saturday, but that event is only one of several upcoming summer concerts at the venue.

They perform at the stadium on Wed. Aug. 11.

Since their early days in Maryland and Ohio, groove-rock band O.A.R. ( has groomed itself as a well-polished music machine. Now, signed to Lava/Atlantic, they've achieved success with a recent smash-hit album, 2008's All Sides, featuring the chart-toppers "This Town" and "Shattered." Lead singer Marc Roberge and his mates play a concert on Daniel Island for the fifth year in a row with support from songwriter/bandleader Citizen Cope on Sat Aug. 14.

Touring on a new disc titled Save Me, San Francisco, Grammy Award-winning San Fran-based alt-rock band Train ( shares the stage with S.C. group NeedToBreathe on Thurs. Aug. 26. Atlanta blues-rock vets The Black Crowes ( are solid for Fri. Sept. 10 as part of the massive Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys Tour in celebration of the 20th year anniversary of 1990's Shake Your Money Maker.
