Styx hit (almost) every hit in the catalog last week

They said it couldn't be done. They said that it would never happen. But it did. For one night and one song only, the Beatles were back. Or at least that's what it sounded like when Styx launched into the Fab Four's arguably most psychedelic track, "I Am the Walrus." The tempo was dead-on, as were the keys and the voice, both provided by Lawrence Gowan, a Canadian solo star who replaced founding member and lead vocalist Dennis DeYoung in 1999.

And for their efforts, Styx — singer/guitarists Tommy Shaw and James "J.Y." Young, drummer Todd Sucherman, and bassist Ricky Phillips — were greeted with a lukewarm round of applause. Which wasn't a surprise really. The folks that packed the Coliseum came to hear such Styx classics as "Come Sail Away," "Renegade," "Blue Collar Man," and "Mr. Roboto." And the Shaw-led Styx did not disappoint, delivering spirited renditions of all ... well, except for DeYoung's silly robot song. (It was missing from the set-list. How curious.)
