The brainchild of self-proclaimed “Style Girl” Jess James, Style Swap is an event geared toward fashionistas looking to update their closets in recessionista times. If you missed out in the past, here’s the deal: Bring one gently worn, fashionable item (meaning designer or vintage) on a hanger and one accessory. Upon arrival, you’re given tags to stake out your favorite clothes. Do so sparingly — you’re only given five. New owners are then chosen at random, so you may hit the jackpot or you may leave empty-handed. It’s the gamble that makes it fun. Guests will also enjoy tempting treats from Cupcake and Wildflour Pastry, mini-makeovers, massages, wine and bubbly, and the chance to win sponsored swap outfits along with a number of other prizes. Before the swap, browse the Handmade Market, a collection of the latest styles from local fashion designers and boutiques. This year’s Style Swap welcomes special guest Arielle Worona, the production development manager from 44 Blue, a company that produces shows for Style, OWN, and A&E. She’ll be flying in from Los Angeles to consider James’ concept as a basis for her next style-based reality TV show to air on VH1.
