Since opening in 2010, the team at 17 North Roadside Kitchen has established itself as a destination restaurant with solid Southern and American fare. This year, Chef Brannon Florie wants to jump into the craft beer scene with a series of monthly beer dinners and festivals. “We’ve done a lot of growing and expanding over the last year,” Florie says. “I feel like I have a great staff in the kitchen and in the front of house, and I’m finally able to do special events the way I’d like to.” Florie credits Assistant Manager Heather Harrell and bartender/server Will Cook for getting the ball rolling on their debut beer dinner. It’s a five-course, six-beer feast with a mix of Asian and Southern-style dishes paired with standard and seasonal ales from the San Diego-based Stone Brewing Co. Featured beers include Stone’s Pale Ale, Levitation, Self Righteous, Smoked Porter, Arrogant Bastard, and Ruination. Stone’s Southeast regional rep Scott Sheridan will present each beer. “Will Cook has really been a great beer guy here, and he’s committed to going full-on with these craft beer events,” Florie says. 17 North already has a Palmetto Brewing Co. beer dinner in the works for March and an outdoor beer festival featuring local microbreweries set for Sun.
