America’s been celebrating its independence since 1776 (OK, 1783 if you want to get technical). And it seems to have been going pretty well — parade, food, party, and fireworks. Well, since it’s 2013, we think it’s time to change it up a little and head to the Star-Spangled Pride Pageant at Club Pantheon. The pageant will have all of the usual elements — talent, short answer, evening wear, drag queens and kings. You know — the usual. Dale Brown, director of public relations at Charleston Pride, says “I’m most excited to see how the contestants interpret the theme — they could go for a pride theme or do the patriotic theme of Star-Spangled.” And the winners will be crowned as the Empress and Emperor of Charleston Pride 2013, appearing in the parade and at the rally at Brittlebank Park in August. Ava Clear hosts the nighttime events, and DJ Willy Will provides the jams. Proceeds will benefit Charleston Pride.
