William Butler Yeats once said, “I think you can leave the arts, superior or inferior, to the conscience of mankind.” Dublin-born singer and musician Steve Carroll might know what this means. Year after year, he and his acoustic combo the Bograts usher in a proper St. Patrick’s Day celebration at Tommy Condon’s Irish Pub (160 Church St.) with raucous and melodic sounds. This week marks the pub’s 25th anniversary. As the singer, songwriter, and bodhran (Irish drum) player, Carroll stands alongside singer/guitarist Teddy Prause and fiddler/guitarist Christian Carroll (Steve's son) in the front window and leads the crowds through lively sets of traditional Irish tunes and sing-alongs every week. The combo manages to toss in a few cleverly reworked renditions of pop tunes, too. Kathy Peacock sings at noon and the Bograts play at 9 p.m. —T. Ballard Lesemann
