A CHOCOLATE DROP RETURNS. Rhiannon Giddens Laffan will be a familiar face if you've seen the Carolina Chocolate Drops at the Cistern, the Pour House, or at last year's Spoleto finale. Rhiannon is now with Grammy, and with her good friend and singing partner Cheryse McLoud Lewis, performing a program of vocal duets that range from opera and music theater to spirituals that Cheryse says "are real crowd pleasers."
Nothing but meows. Eleganza's 2009 album, Because I Knew You, featured a memorable operatic song in which the dueling divas meow it out to classical music. Kids and adults will both enjoy this one, or at least have something to talk about.
POUNCE ON THOSE TICKETS. You get two nationally-recognized, beautiful and gifted singers, a pianist and one hour-long performance in a historic wooden church with a stained glass backdrop (and you will be out right in time for those carefully-planned dinner reservations). With only 225 seats and a total steal at $11, this performance is likely to sell out quickly.
