Rain or shine, the folks from Special Olympics S.C. will raise a ruckus (and raise funds) out at Mingo Point this Sunday when they present the Memorial Day Marsh Jam. Money raised at the all-day concert and festival will benefit local Special Olympics programs and help send 17 Charleston-area athletes to the 2010 Special Olympics National Games in Lincoln, Neb. Special Olympics S.C. is a year-round sports organization that provides training and competition opportunities to individuals with mental disabilities. The roster includes an impressive lineup of local talent (bands, songwriters, instrumentalists, etc.). Music on the main stage starts at 1:15 p.m. and runs until 9 p.m. Songwriter Brooke Campbell kicks things off, followed but (in order of appearance) Reckoning, O Mello Cello Tree, Po’Ridge, Guilt-Ridden Troubadour, Gregory Scott, Hollow Reed, and Quasiphonics. Kids activities will be happening, and a variety of barbecue, beers, and soft drinks will be available for purchase. Mingo Point is located on the Kiawah Island Pkwy., along the river, just before the main entrance to Kiawah Island. —T. Ballard Lesemann
