Smashing Pumpkins to visit Charleston

Billy Corgan's latest version headlines the Music Farm in July

There was a lot of buzz, tweeting action, and chatter in town this week about the possibility of Chicago-born alt-rock band The Smashing Pumpkins hitting the Music Farm sometime this summer. The club confirmed the rumors today, announcing that singer/guitarist Billy Corgan and company were solid for a show on Sat. July 17. The Pumpkins recently announced a 12-show run of intimate venues from July 6-21.

The original Smashing Pumpkins included drummer Jimmy Chamberlin, guitarist James Iha, and bassist D'Arcy. They first earned major artistic and commercial success with the 1991 album Gish and 1993's Siamese Dream.

The current lineup includes bassist Nicole Fiorentino, guitarist Jeff Schroeder ,and drummer Mike Byrne. This summer road trip marks the band's first tour since December 2008. Last week, they released the four-song Teargarden by Kaleidyscope Vol. 1: Songs for a Sailor EP — the first of a series of 11 mini albums. Corgan says the set will feature "a balance of classics, a few obscure ones, and new Teargarden material."

Advance tickets for the Music Farm show go on sale for $45 on Fri. June 11 through and Merch Underground's office at 499 King Street. Visit and for more info.
