The old Joy Luck China has been transformed. What was once a sparse, fluorescent-lit Chinese takeout counter is now a cozy, wood-paneled sushi bar. They’ve kept the lucrative Chinese food delivery business, but the sushi chefs behind the bar are serious about their Japanese creations. The prices have regressed over their first few months of business, and Sakura has become a much more affordable option for sushi on the west side of town. The specialty rolls will blow your mind — try the Shogun or the Godzilla — but even a typical spicy tuna or shrimp tempura roll will impress. They’ve also got teriyaki, hibachi, tempura, and noodle hot pots if you’re looking for some belly-warming fare. —Stephanie Barna
