Saffron gets a new look

And a new buffet, patio, and bocce court

Saffron's got a whole new vibe. Gone are the wacky booths straight out of the '80s. So too is the awkward layout. Instead, the restaurant has been retooled with a new dining room, a much better flow, an outdoor patio, and shiny, new pastry cases that put their beautiful baked goods on mouth-watering display.

Before, the dining room was bisected by a pastry case with coolers and shelving throughout that seemed oriented toward the East Bay entrance. Now, the cash register, display cases, and grocery items are separated from the dining room by a wood-slatted wall, making for a much less confusing floor plan.

The dining room has cushy new tables and booths in a soft palette of grays and oranges. On weekdays, the new buffet station is an all-you-can-eat pizza and salad bar for $8.99. Co-owner Ali Rahnamoon says the pizza is the same kind they served at Papillon, the pizza place he and his business partner Shahram Aghapour had in the Market back in the '90s.

Saffron has kept the same breakfast and lunch menu and will be extending its hours into the night, adding hookahs, live music, and a bocce court to its offerings. Copious parking and the new outdoor patio might just make this a new hot spot.
