Put on grandma’s fur coat and pearls and head to the Tin Roof to check out the threads from Runaround Sue Vintage and vintage jewels by Gypsy Lady Antiques. Celebrating the one-year anniversary of her online clothing boutique with a charity fashion show, Kelly Rae Smith is cramming the catwalk with ’50s sex kittens, ’60s mod, ’90s grunge, and a whole lot of retro funk as the V-Tones provide vintage tunes for this party. “I can attach myself so easily to a great piece of fashion history,” says Smith. Her own wardrobe overflows with retro polka dots and florals. She returned to Charleston last year after five years abroad, her suitcase stuffed with rare European vintage finds, like dainty 1950s aprons that Smith calls “stunning wee works of art.” Kicking off at 8 p.m., the fashion show will display some of the 500-plus items found on the online shop, ranging from shift dresses to men’s suits, each possessing its own unique history. Be one of the first kittens through the door and receive a goodie bag stocked by local businesses and members of the Charleston creative community. All proceeds will benefit the Charleston chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. “It’s the most fun and fashionable way to punch cancer in the face,” Smith says.
