Stand-up comedian, national radio show host, and prank caller Rickey Smiley can be heard every morning on The Box (92.5 FM), and now he’s bringing his act live to North Charleston. Apart from his weekday morning radio show, Smiley has hosted stand-up showcases on BET and has appeared on Showtime at the Apollo as well as various HBO programs including Def Comedy Jam. He’s also released five CDs. His comedy act usually features his take on
original characters, like Bernice Jenkins and her
grandson Rufus. The characters are a favorite of fans, as they tend to mirror qualities of friends or relatives in an affable and hilarious light. His use of good-natured humor and lack of vulgarity make his show a family affair, a rarity in comedy. —Dustin J. Pitts
