Don’t tell the kids, but apparently Santa’s secret trick to get Rudolph and the rest of the reindeer gang going is beer. At least, that’s one of the motivators for the Charleston Reindeer Runners. The 22nd annual Reindeer Run 5K event will have Charlestonians careening in a fuzzy-antlered herd throughout the lower peninsula and around the Battery as they loop toward Southend Brewery, where the finish line — and free beer — awaits. Benefiting the MUSC Children’s Hospital and the Charitable Society of Charleston, the race is both family- and pet-friendly, and all are encouraged to dress in their holiday cheesiest. After the race, watch the awards ceremony and get down with your fellow reindeer for food, drinks, live music by the Cordovans, and even massages for your tired muscles. Be sure to bring your ID if you want the complimentary booze, which is served until 11 a.m. Afterward, stick around for the official Reindeer Run Post Race Party for happy hour prices on more beer, Bloody Marys, and appetizers. A portion of these proceeds will go to the Reindeer Run beneficiaries, too.
