We have our own chicken-egg scenario here at the City Paper: Did our love of reggae come first or did our love of dreadlocks lead us to the island beats? We know, we know, not every person with dreads likes or plays reggae and not every reggae player has the knotted hairstyle, but we can’t help the connection in our brains. Lucky for us, Reggae Nights at James Island County Park return this Friday to help us ponder our conundrum. “We have a great musical lineup this year that features a variety of some of the popular bands from throughout the years that we’ve been hosting the series,” says Sarah Reynolds from Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission. “As we introduced last year, the event will take place in the park’s larger meadow area to allow for more room, instead of near the picnic center, which was its former location within James Island County Park.” That lineup features De Lions of Jah on June 6, ReggaeInfinity on June 27, Da’Gullah Rootz on July 11, and Mystic Vibrations on Aug. 1. Beer and wine will be available for purchase, and food trucks will be on-site for some eats.
