Two weeks ago, local "independent" rock station 96 Wave fired Storm Zbel and Kenny Z of the popular "Storm & Kenny Radio Show with Stupid Mike." Station management cited a severe drop in ratings. Storm and Kenny disputed the charge, claiming high ratings for their time slot among several targeted demographics throughout the year. According to the last official ratings book, the morning team was rated 12th in the group of listeners ages 12 and up. In the group from 18-34, they were rated fourth. In the group from 18-44, they were rated seventh. In the week following the incident, traffic and "Hollywood Gossip" reporter Heather "Traffic Fairy" Daniels went MIA without explanation. Meanwhile, Miles "Uncle Miles" Crosby indefinitely took over as host of the morning show from 6-10 a.m. With the Wave story still unfolding, one side might be presented in theatrical comedic fashion when Kenny Z presents "Kenny Z's Last Stand" — a comedy show at 8 p.m. on Thurs. April 20 at Theatre 99 at 280 Meeting St. The show will include characters from the morning show team, local comedians, and special guests. Tickets are $10. Call 853-6687 or check www.etix.com.

It must be springtime: singer/guitarist David Bethany was recently spotted playing a solo set at Oceansong Café. He's scheduled to play another solo show at Banana Cabana on Fri. Call the venue at 883-3924 for more.

Local band Catala won first place at last week's "Battle of the Band's" finale at A Dough Re Mi!

Athens, Ga.-based rock quintet The Drive-By Truckers canceled their scheduled show for Fri. April 14 at this week's Heritage Motorcycle Rally. It seems they were stuck in the UK playing the likes of Wolverhampton, Bristol, and London, and can't make it back in time for the show. UK rock dinosaurs Foghat will stumble in as the replacement headlining act. Fans can still catch the Truckers on stage this week ... on TV! The band's performance for the Edwin McCain-hosted series "Music Road" (on Turner South) airs on Thurs. April 13 at 10 p.m. Check www.heritagemotorcyclerally.com. —TBL
