Mix together one part developing nonprofit organization, a bunch of bands you may not have heard of, and one of the Holy City’s biggest dive bars, and you’ve got Panic for a Cause, hosted by One World Café Charleston. The organization’s goal is to eventually build a community kitchen in the Cannonborough/Elliotborough area that will operate under a pay-what-you-will policy, allowing everyone to eat a healthy, organic, and nutritious meal regardless of their economic status. Similar start-ups in other progressive cities have seen a strong response from customers who run the gamut of economic levels, but the main idea is that they’re all brought together by good food. Their first fund-raising event, on Friday, features music from Floor Boards (experimental/neo-soul), Sarah Bandy (folk acoustic), Puberty (rock/trance), guest DJs, and more. They’ll also offer drink specials.
