In 1908, rejecting the academic establishment, eight American artists organized the first major independent group exhibition of the 20th century, paving the way for future independent exhibitions to further the cause of modern art in America. This exhibition traces the careers of those eight artists: Arthur B. Davies, William Glackens, Robert Henri, Ernest Lawson, George Luks, Maurice Prendergast, Everett Shinn, and John Sloan.
