In the Lowcountry, hardly anything goes better with a traditional barbecue cookout than twangy bluegrass and country music. When Ted’s Butcherblock hosts another one of their breezy block parties on the corner of Inspection and East Bay streets this week, local quartet the Bushels will supply the tunes and jams. The specialty shop and eatery celebrates the season with an “old-fashioned backyard barbecue” on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. with an outdoor cookout (with Painted Hills beef burgers and Polish Kielbasa on the grill), raffles, and craft beer and wine samplings. The Bushels feature Butcherblock staffer Mal Jones on mandolin and vocals, alongside guitarist Jim Algar, banjoist Guilds Hollowell, and bassist Whitt Algar. Listen for original tunes from their self-titled EP and a recently released collection called Wood & Steel (holler out for the fast-chuggin’ “Cheap Beer Bar Brand Blues”). Proceeds benefit local charity Feed the Need.
