Season your sauerkraut and put up your David Hasselhoff poster. It’s finally time for Oktoberfest. For the 10th year, Blackbaud Stadium hosts the event celebrating German culture and cuisine. True to its origins, Oktoberfest will be full of beer and wine as well as authentic German food and pastries from Sticky Fingers, the Nutty Bavarian, Kona Ice, and Rococo Bakery. The Bavarian Challenge is back to test your strength during the tug o’ war, three-legged race, and bratwurst eating contest, and an intense battle will be waged during the 64-team Corn Hole Tournament. If that’s not your thing, spend a relaxing afternoon listening to the Gootman Sauerkraut Band, and join the German dancers while hoisting a stein. They’re expecting almost 5,000 people this year. “It’s grown every year to the point that it’s become a fixture of the Charleston scene,” says stadium president Andrew Bell. “It’s a community event and there are many activities for the children. But there is also serious beer drinking and lederhosen wearing.” That sounds like our kind of party.
