Easter weekend has passed and the ban has officially lifted on wearing summer white. For P. Diddy protégés, this means white party season has begun. O-ku kicked off the first of the summer with Shiro Saturday night. Party-goers donned the requisite blingin’ white attire, matching the thousands of female College of Charleston graduates roaming the streets throughout the day.
DJ Trav partnered with Andy Childs on the sax providing entertainment for the evening, although there was little room for a coordinated dance floor. The lack of space failed to stop many, who turned wherever they were standing into a personal dance party. The pear-flavored Grey Goose shots provided by cocktail waitresses might have had a little to do with the unabashed grinding.
Artwork by Mark Edwards adorned the walls, though most were concentrating more on the bar than anything else. The party was a solid effort to attract a slightly younger crowd to the restaurant. Hopefully it will be a start to larger, more coordinated events.
