Grab your day planner — you’ll need it if you want to keep track of the more than 100 performances, exhibitions, and workshops going on during the North Charleston Arts Festival. The festival began 30 years ago in Park Circle as a single day of celebration. Since then, it’s grown into a nine-day cultural extravaganza that attracts more than 30,000 visitors each year. Art and culture lovers will find plenty to catch their fancy, including sculpture, paintings, performance art, storytelling, dancing, and lots more. Some of the events we’re excited about are the Once Upon a Quilt African-American fiber arts exhibition and the National Outdoor Sculpture Competition, which this year features 12 sculptures from artists around the country. The submissions are set up throughout Riverfront Park, and offer a great way to spend a pretty afternoon.
