It’s been a big year for the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art. Now that they can stretch their legs in the spacious new Marion and Wayland H. Cato Jr. Center for the Arts, they’re continuing the celebration with a membership soiree on Friday. New Moon: New Museum invites its new, renewing, and current members to an evening of art and indulgence. Guests can get their portrait made with the signature Halsey moon backdrop while enjoying “jazzy back-alley tunes” from the Garage Cuban Band, a local quintet featuring two drummers. Beth Coiner will give a modern dance performance — if last year’s show was any indication, you don’t want to miss it. If you haven’t already, take a nice gander at Aldwyth’s exhibit Work v./Work n. while you’re there. Naturally, spirits and hors d’oeuvres will be available for your schmoozing. This is also the 20th anniversary for the School of the Arts, something worth toasting to. —Patrick McGinn
