My Sister's House starts donation drive

Asking for "$5 in five days"

South Carolina ranks seventh for numbers of domestic violence incidents. Charleston County consistently ranks highest in numbers of reported domestic violence victims, and Berkeley and Dorchester counties rank in the top 20. One organization is using five days, starting yesterday, to try to help the victims.

My Sister’s House, Charleston’s only shelter for women and children escaping family violence, is asking people to spend five minutes of their day online. This isn’t an incredibly tough challenge considering that most people nowadays are online for much more than five minutes each day. Of course, what My Sister’s House is really asking for is a bit more specific. Starting Wed. May 5, the fifth day of the fifth month, their Five Dollars in Five Days campaign hopes to attract enough donors to raise $10,000 before Mon. May 31. You can donate $5 or as much as you would like.

To donate, visit www.mysistershouse5days.bbnow.org. Donations could buy anything from baby food to a month’s rent.
