Music in the Time of Charles Ives

A celebration of the music of American composer Charles Ives and his contemporaries

What is it? A celebration of the music of American composer Charles Ives and his contemporaries. Donald Portnoy will conduct the Piccolo Spoleto Festival Orchestra with mezzo-soprano Jennifer Luiken and soprano Jill Tehaar Lewis as soloists.

Why see it? Hearing the music of Charles Ives placed alongside works by composers such as Prokofiev, Rachmaninoff, Dvorák, and de Falla should create a rich context for appreciating this American original who, though hardly given his due during his lifetime, has come to be regarded as one of the first truly great American composers.

Who should go? Anyone with an interest in modernist classical music, or Ives in particular, should not miss this opportunity.

PICCOLO SPOLETO • $10 • 1 hour 15 min. • May 30 at 6 p.m. • New Tabernacle Fourth Baptist Church, 22 Elizabeth St. • (888) 374-2656
