Michael Mitchell hosts Southern Comforts opening

Peep KC Collins' blurry Lowcountry scenes

Friday night, the Michael Mitchell Gallery on Upper King Street hosts the opening reception of Southern Comforts: A Collection of Lowcountry Landscape Paintings by KC Collins. Collins is a Cleveland native who has been a Piccolo Spoleto regular since being the youngest exhibitor ever accepted into the Outdoor Art Exhibit six years ago when she was a junior at Elon. This past Spoleto, she was honored with the Mayor’s Choice Award.
Collins’ blurred landscapes and streetscapes have been described as “atmospheric” and “ethereal,” finding, as she says, the “true essence between abstract and the real.” Her Carolina-inspired scenes have a likeness to those great digital camera pictures that blur street lamps just right or make a snapshot on the beach seem dream-like.
The reception begins at 5 p.m. on Nov. 19. Southern Comforts will be on view through mid-December.
